Diogo Nogueira

New York debut

Friday, July 1, 2011 at 6:00
Dance Lesson at 6:30, Live Music at 7:30

Diogo Nogueira has the samba in his blood just about as literally as anyone could. The son of Portela samba school’s celebrated composer João Nogueira, this young singer-songwriter grew up with sambas for lullabies, beginning his career in childhood singing with his musical parents at rodas and festivals. He’s since exploded into a national television star and an international sensation, winning the 2010 Latin Grammy for Best Samba/Pagode. For his New York debut, he and his band will show New York’s dancers how Rio’s new generation of samba players does it.
